My kid was super worried about volunteering internationally. So was I, Guatemala kind has a bad rap. And there were so many different options, when we worked out that Volunteerworld kinda checks them all first for safety and quality assurance we could pick with them instead. Like comparethemarket.com means we could tailor it, and not just see on company.
I looooved my volunteering trip to Costa Rica. I spent 3 weeks there and it was just perfect. the accommodation was not luxury, but this is not what you would expect from a project. I would definitely book via VolunteerWorld again, to me it was super helpful to get great support while looking for the right project. I also really like my certificate. All in all, I had the best time, easiest booking process and nicest support. Thanks for the help!!
Eine Frechheit, mir wurde doppelt so viel verrechnet wie abgemacht/ als auf der Website gestanden hat. Es wurde dann gesagt dass das der Organisation gegeben wird wo ich volunteere, aber das Geld ist nie angekommen. Volunteerworld hat es sich in die eigene Tasche geschoben. Ich war für 8 Wochen über VolunteerWorld in einem Tierschutzprojekt in Kapstadt. Die Arbeit mit den Hunden war sinnvoll und das Team vor Ort freundlich und engagiert – dafür bin ich dankbar. Volunteer World is a total scam!! There are so many hidden fees and up charges that the actual volunteer organization never sees and all goes to this site and their (lack of) customer support. Please just go to the website of the organization that you want to volunteer with, and work with them directly. Do your homework and make sure they are legit, but it’s much better to work direct. Mariela was great with helping me get all the information of the programs that I was interested in and briefing me on the insurance flights. She gave me feedback on the different options all through the discovery call, she also got back to me on WhatsApp and she was very prompt with sharing information with me via email. I booked one volunteering trip to Zanzibar. Even tho I the organizing around the trip was really worrisome because my local coordinator was chaotic, I will never forget that trip. It is the trip of a lifetime. I can recommend it at the end of the day!

I stayed at the Wild life sanctuary in Guacima,Costa Rica this year, It was horrendous. The food was awful every day, my so called room, ( a concrete bunker) was disgusting. Electric wires in the shower, which just had concrete on the floor, no windows, metal grills at the top of the bunker, which let in every bug you could possible imagine. My family and I had a wonderful volunteer experience with Maximo Nivel! The communication with the Maximo team was easy and consistent. Our 9 yr old enjoyed volunteering at the dog shelter and being immersed in the Costa Rican culture. We would highly recommend getting involved with Maximo!
This was our first time volunteering abroad, and it was an absolutely amazing experience. Volunteer World is an excellent organization, with a friendly, supportive, and knowledgeable staff. They always made themselves available to answer my questions, and find solutions to support my travel and volunteer goals. This is an excellent and affordable way to travel while also giving back to the local communities they help represent globally.
