Avoid at all cost. On the second day of my rental the low coolant warning light came on and I took it to the Rostock location in the hopes of trading in the vehicle since I would have it another four days. Rather than swapping the vehicle which was having an obvious issue that could lead to mechanical failure, she added a liter of water and told me I could take the vehicle to Volkswagen to have it checked out if the light came on again. I had to laugh at the audacity of her suggestion that I should be responsible for the maintenance of a rental vehicle. Two days later, the light came on again after driving less than 60 miles and I had to put yet another liter of water in. It seemed the vehicle was having a significant coolant loss if it needed a liter replaced every 60 miles. I drove back to the Rostock location, again in hopes of trading the car, but the woman would not budge and claimed all the vehicles were rented. There were two vehicles still sitting on the lot and it was a Wednesday, not a busy weekend. She made no offer to have me come back and trade the car the next day, she just told me I would have to call roadside assistance or take the vehicle to the Volkswagen dealer myself - I was traveling on a work trip, I don't have time to maintain Avis's car for them nor do I want to be stranded on the side of the highway in a foreign country. I ended up driving back to my hotel and reporting a breakdown, but turns out the roadside service only handles tows and would not be able to assist me with getting a replacement vehicle. The woman at the Rostock location mislead me by telling me I could call roadside assistance and they would bring me a new car. Just out of curiosity, I checked to see if I could rent a vehicle for the next day from the location and was successful. The next day I went to work and stopped by the Rostock location for a third time before making the three-and-a-half hour drive to Berlin for my flight out. There were five cars on the lot, again she claimed all the vehicles were rented, even though one of the vehicles (a red Opel) from the previous day was still sitting there and I had cancelled the reservation I had made that so there should have been at least two vehicles available. I even pulled up the Avis up to show her it there were cars in nearly every class available for rent. Once she realized I caught her in a lie, she changed her story claiming she couldn't just trade a car because the renter didn't like it and used the example of trading a car just because there was a rattle coming from the door. I pointed out that my situation was different because it would lead to a mechanical failure and asked if she'd prefer I drive it until it overheats and costs more to repair. Without hesitation she said I would have to drive the car until it broke down.
